The standard and even uprated Rover gaskets are less reliable than the Land Rover modified multi layer gasket.
Common symptoms of head gasket failure:
- Engine overheating
- Excessive coolant loss
- Coolant in the oil (this looks like a milky sludge on the dipstick, or oil filler cap)
- Oil in the coolant (this also looks like a milky sludge, but in the expansion tank) - if this is the case, there may be an extra charge due the flushing/ replacement of oil contaminated parts.
- Engine mis-fire, excessive white smoke from the exhaust, or hard/ non start.
Please contact me if you are unsure your vehicle is suffering from these and I will happy to talk you through what to check.
PLEASE NOTE: If the engine has excessively overheated, it may have caused further damage, which the head gasket replacement may not repair. This can be checked once the cylinder head has been removed.
